Ultra Culture: A United Front

Updated: Nov 11, 2023

Unity, a rare theme in football, so often we clash, so often we express our hate for other fan bases and clubs. That we often forget we are stronger united, in recent years governing bodies have marginalized football fans. Ultras in particular have been villainized, labelled as criminals and drunks. In an attempt to further commercialize football and keep it 'family friendly' leagues around the world have begun placing restrictions on Ultras, some even banning them completely.

For those of you who do not know what 'Ultras' are, they are the most devoted and fanatical of football fans. They follow there teams everywhere they go, city to city, country to country, continent to continent it doesn't matter football is the lifestyle they choose to lead. On top of being the most passionate groups of fans in sport, they are also responsible for creating some of the most incredible pieces of art.

They say football is a matter of life and death - but it's more important than that" Bill Shankly

Tifos, Pyro, Street, Street Art, Colour Shows. Ultras are responsible for some of the most beautiful artistic expression you will ever see. They are one of the key reasons football is as special as it is. Their devotion is often warped by media into being thuggish and violent with little proof or evidence. Devoting your life to something, whatever it may be is commendable. And my god are Ultras devoted, it's time to abolish the stereotypes, and fight back against this corporate mentality. It can be done, recent protests against the 'Super League' forced change, so now as a united community we can do it again. Standing up for Ultra Culture is not just sticking up for them as people, its sticking up for what little remains of the beautiful game.
